The Working Moms Crisis and What Employers Can Do

A new panel discussion series from D CEO, starting April 7, sheds light on issues that burden working women—and how companies can help.

Women have long faced inequalities in the workplace. For those who are also mothers, the challenges are even greater. Structural gaps and the expectation to juggle childcare with career demands have been exacerbated by COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, more than 2 million women across the country have dropped out of the workforce.

This creates economic challenges for women—and talent challenges for employers. On April 7, D CEO will host a conversation with three women leaders about what companies can do to implement policies to retain and support working parents.

The event will be moderated by Gillea Allison, publisher of D CEO and president of D Magazine Partners, and feature:

Star Carter

Star Carter. The co-founder, COO, and general counsel of Kanarys is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her efforts to keep companies accountable in increasing diversity is helping ensure a safer and more welcoming workplace for people of all backgrounds. She received her Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from the University of Texas at Austin.

Jennifer Chandler

Jennifer Chandler. The managing director of Bank of America’s Dallas Market, and president and market executive for Bank of America Private Bank, leads with a commitment to corporate stewardship. As part of the Bank of America Foundation committee, she focuses on promoting a culture of volunteerism and community support. Beyond her roles in the office, Chandler works to better the greater Dallas community by serving on the board and as a member of several nonprofit organizations.

Roslyn Dawson Thompson

Roslyn Dawson Thompson. The president and CEO of Texas Women’s Foundation has focused her career on advocating for women and girls. During her tenure, the foundation has become one of the largest women’s funds in the world and led initiatives to impact women’s economic security and leadership. The research TWF conducts informs decision-makers and lawmakers with data to inform policies, practices, and programs regarding specific issues that affect women and girls.
