Jewelry From the UAPO Akola Project

earrings1I really admire people who do charity work. The world needs more selfless, giving souls like those involved with the UAPO (Ugandan American Partnership Organization). Their goal is to “join the fight of local Ugandans to help their impoverished neighbors. UAPO seeks to meet the physical, spiritual, and social needs of Ugandans.” So why am I telling you about them? Not only because it’s a worthy cause but also because one of their ways of helping the Ugandans is through the Akola Project, which teaches the many widows of the country (due to AIDS, accidents and tragedies) to make jewelry that is then is sold in America as well as in local villages. The pieces, which are hand-made, can be found locally at Krimson & Klover. I’m wearing a pair of their earrings today (see photo) and it’s nice to know that they are helping people half way around the world.
