Queen of the South Episode 6 Recap

Does Teresa get her swagger back?

Last week we watched relationships evolve and emotions reveal themselves. This week we processed what happened.

Teresa is still dealing with seeing the man at the party be murdered by Eric, a Dallas drug dealer who hosts crazy parties, and his team. As she gets dressed for the day, a girl next to her asks if Teresa can help her with the back of her shirt. As she tells Teresa her hopes of going to California to be an actress after leaving the warehouse, she sets up her pipe to smoke meth. The way this girl smokes the pipe seems unrealistic, because this girl is honestly so pretty, it’s unbelievable she does meth, fueling the irony of the situation even more. Future Teresa pops up in the side of the room and tells Present Day Teresa “sometimes we need lies to survive.”

Teresa completes her first delivery in this episode, taking cocaine to a scruffy white guy who looks more like a dad trying to be Blake Shelton than a bachelor with a cool crib. As he takes the bags out of their containers — this week, instead of juice bottles, they are coffee thermoses — he snorts the product and offers Teresa some, which she declines. He says, “the other girl did. She did lots of things,” and Teresa retorts “I don’t mix work and play.” This guy is a real winner, adding his name to the list of sleazebags Teresa has had to deal with so far. We find out he is an immigration lawyer, and suddenly Teresa is interested in doing work with him — she wants him to get immigration papers for some of her loved ones still in Mexico. That part is to be determined because we don’t see Coked Up Dad Shelton for the rest of the episode.

Dallas visuals are everywhere in this episode. As James and Teresa go to their next deal for Camila, talking about the events from last week, they drive right past Reunion Tower. They park right next to the Fairbanks Morse & Co., Inc. building — their business is taking place in the Dallas West End.

They walk into the parking garage where the deal will take place and three white vans roll around the corner. As James walks up to them to receive the shipment, Teresa sees trouble in the security mirror by the parking garage staircase. Their garage connection sees this, too, and slides a gun into her hands. Is it competition wanting to steal the deal? Is it a couple looking for their car after a long day of shopping? Nope — it’s the DEA.

Epifanio knows about Camila’s plans to get her product for her buyers, so he got in touch with the DEA and sent them to bust Camila’s shipment and worsen her business even more. The garage connection is shot, as are many of the delivery men, but James and Teresa manage to escape. They run through Victory Park and dodge the Dallas police cars making rounds. They separate, Teresa blending into a city tour group and James hopping a trolley. Teresa gets back to their Swagger Wagon by the Fairbanks building, and she backs out to go find James. But not before buckling her seatbelt. Safety first.

After picking up James, they make their way back to Camila’s club. On their way, the drug queen calls James in alarm because the DEA bust is all over the news. She does not have a clue that Epifanio is the one that called, and she still believes that his shipment will come through.

Whether Camila can revive her business is something we will have to keep watching to see. Teresa is getting deeper into Camila’s world. Brenda has set up her own little drug business to provide for herself and hijo Tony. James is sending his Southern Belle girlfriend away to safety. And we will just have to find out whether the lies of promised safety Teresa has been relying on will really help her survive the next adventure.

Episode No. 7 airs 9 pm next Thursday, August 5, on USA.
