Troy Villarreal Named New Medical City CEO

|

Troy Villarreal will take over as Medical City’s new president and CEO this fall, HCA announced early this morning. Villarreal will take over for current CEO Erol Akdamar on Oct. 1, when Akdamar becomes president of the HCA North Texas Division.

As CEO, Villarreal will oversee both Medical City Dallas Hospital and Medical City Children’s Hospital.

“Troy’s extensive experience in the North Texas market makes him an ideal leader for Medical City,” said HCA North Texas President James C. Scoggin, Jr., who is retiring this fall. “He’s not only driven significant achievements during his tenures as CEO of The Medical Center of Plano and before that Plaza Medical Center, but also successfully planned and executed a $160 million expansion plan as chief operating officer of Medical City before leaving in 2003.”

Villarreal has close to 20 years experience in the healthcare industry, and is currently the CEO of The Medical Center of Plano. During his five years as CEO, inpatient admissions have increased close to 50 percent, and inpatient surgeries have increased by more than 60 percent, the hospital group said in a statement. Villarreal also secured $66 million in funding for an expansion project that includes the addition of 70 beds, and a provider-based emergency department in northern Plano.

“Medical City has a culture of dynamic, passionate leadership that filters down to every facet of the organization,” said Villarreal. “As CEO, I will collaborate with our physician partners, Medical City staff, and community leaders to ensure a continued commitment to world-class healthcare for patients and their families.”

Troy is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, earned his B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M University in 1989, and an MHA and MBA from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 1994.
