Claudia Baez — Paintings After Proust at Carillon Gallery, Tarrant County College South Campus — Nov. 12, 6-8 p.m. 5301 Campus Dr. Fort Worth, TX 76119.

There’s an intriguing triple remove behind New York-based, Mexico City-born painter Claudia Baez’s new body of work. Her paintings draw from and adopt aspects of a selection of significant paintings spanning six centuries of art history. Baez has chosen the paintings she mimics, copies, or appropriates by using works included in author and painter Eric Karpeles’s book Paintings in Proust: A Visual Companion to “In Search of Lost Time.” Karpeles book, in turn, is a compilation of works mentioned in Marcel Proust’s seminal novel. The result is a kind of painterly mimicry of one of Proust’s primary narrative interests, memory, and the way one’s experience of the present is an extension of the subject’s effort to reconstitute the past.

Moreno / Peña at the Latino Cultural CenterNov. 13, 6-8 p.m. 2600 Live Oak St. Dallas, TX 75204.

Earlier this fall painters and friends Francisco Moreno and Arthur Peña exhibited work concurrently at two different galleries. This Friday, they will be featured in a two-person show at the Latino Cultural Center. In planning since 2012, this exhibition will pair new works by Moreno, which take their cue from selected artworks in the Kimbell’s collection, and five new paintings by Pena, which wrestle with themes of death and time.

House Party Theatre presents Desire Caught by the Tail at Ash StudiosNov. 13, 8-11 p.m. 3203 Ash Ln. Dallas, TX 75226.

The improvisational programming of Ash Studio continues to evolve, making it one of the more active and intriguing art spaces going these days. Tomorrow night kicks-off a run of living room theater performances of Pablo Picasso’s weird and enigmatic farce, Desire Caught by the Tail. Performances will be accompanied by musical acts, and there are new murals on display in the space. And, somewhat serendipitously considering African art’s influence on Picasso, after the unfortunate eviction of the Pan-African Connection this week, Ash is currently holding a selection of the gallery’s collection of African art on loan.

CentralSounds: Sticks at CentralTrakNov. 13, 8-9:30 p.m. 800 Exposition Ave. Dallas, TX 75226.

CentralTrak musical regulars Ex Muse Trio will be joined by the Dallas-based duo of violist-composer Joshua Westerman and multi-instrumentalist-composer Ryan Fellhauer for an evening of experimental music. The performance will feature an improvisational piece called Sticks by New York School composer Christian Wolff. It’s a piece that is what it sounds like, musicians using sticks to make a variety of sounds. While the CentralTrak performance will feature amplified bassoon, percussion, violin, electric guitar and radio, here’s what happens when Sticks is performed by a quartet of vocalists.

ART CON 11 at 1450 BrowderNov. 14, 7- 11 p.m. 1450 Browder St. Dallas, TX 75208.

I’m starting to feel like Art Con exists just to make me feel old. It’s been eleven years since the event imagined as a way to raise money for Katrina refugees took over the then vacant Texas Theater for an opened-sourced art auction that paired art-making with a variety of musical acts. This weekend Art Con returns to the Cedars (it took place at the Longhorn Ballroom for a few years before taking up residence for a while in a West Dallas warehouse), and it will auction 150 artists’ works (created the day before on plywood squares) with musical acts DJ Christy Ray, The Cush, Cliffs of Insanity, and a Blue, The Misfit DJ set. Make Art With Purpose is this year’s beneficiary.
