Travelers’ Advisory: Dallas Radar Cops Want You

Now more than ever
|

Surely there isn t anyone who doesn’t seethe inside when he gets nabbed for speeding by a police radar trap. Especially when it’s one of those sneaky traps, like the one on Preston Road near-Beverly, where the Highland Park police hide in the driveway of one of those Turtle Creek estates. Or the one along the 20-mph side entry to Fair Park, where the Dallas Police Department stations a three-car, six-officer posse on hockey game nights to pounce on drivers late for the game.

Well, speeders, here’s some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the Dallas Police Department is after you more diligently than ever. With a 5300,000 grant from the Texas Office of Traffic Safety, a 12-man team of officers, “The Special Enforcement Squad,” has been assigned to crack down on speeders along Dallas thoroughfares.

The good news: They’re not being sneaky about it. In fact, The Squad is being very up front about the whole thing and is willing to reveal where it’ll be waiting for you. There are six locations being monitored on a “top priority” basis:

● South R. L. Thornton, from the river bridge to Marvin D. Love Freeway.

● orthwest Highway, fromMarsh Lane to Harry Hines.

● Harry Hines Boulevard, from Moody to LBJ.

● North Central Expressway, from Walnut Hill to FloydRoad.

● Lemmon Avenue, fromOak Lawn to Northwest Highway.

● Greenville Avenue, fromRoss to Walnut Hill.

Of course, if you get caught now, it’s going to hurt worse than ever. Because now they can say. “We told you so.”
