The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas, Thomas Tschoepe, is a shy little man who makes only $50 a month. But you can’t say he doesn’t drive a hard business bargain. The Most Reverend Bishop recently struck a deal with Preston State Bank that would impress even the craftiest real estate agent.
Here’s the deal. Christ the King Church and School is giving its neighbor, Preston State Bank, some 95,000 square feet of parking space property, plus their old playground. Here’s the deal. Christ the King Church and School is giving its neighbor, Preston State Bank, some 95,000 square feet of parking space property, plus their old playground. The bank, in return, is giving the church some 148,000 square feet on adjacent property. On this property, as a part of the agreement, the church will have a new fenced playground with regulation football field and baseball diamond, complete with “Hydromulch sod and a complete sprinkler system.” In addition, the bank will contribute $300,000 toward construction of a new gymnasium on the property. Not bad? Well, here’s the best part: The church still gets to use the parking lot it traded away.
