The sixth season of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race is coming up, and Dallas has its first representation with The Guava Tree. This season features experienced food truck owner-operators, and the Perez family fits that description, having launched The Guava Tree in September 2012.

The Guava Tree is a Cuban-American food truck, featuring a Cuban sandwich, pan con lechon, and an outstanding ropa vieja. I find myself returning to the lechon asado bowl time and again. Also, the loaded Yucca fries are terrific. Add a Cuban doughnut (like a beignet filled with guava and cream cheese) for dessert.

The Guava Tree can often be found in the Arts District, the Truck Yard, and at Sigel’s on Greenville on Wednesday evenings.

Episode 1 airs on August 23. The Guava Tree is currently scheduled to be at the Truck Yard that evening. Alas, Onel Perez wouldn’t squeal on the results, so we’ll have to watch to find out.
