You may have noticed that the tequila business has been booming the last couple of years, especially high-end tequila. One producer who hopes to take a piece of the pie, or Agave if you prefer, is Familia Camarena. For 75 years the family has grown their own Blue Agave plants in the Los Altos Highlands region and distilled tequila from them. Now they make Silver and Reposado versions of their tequila and these are widely available in the Dallas market. Wisely, they promote tequila as a spirit for cocktails. We sampled four at a recent tasting and here is a recipe for the drink that is the equivalent to the Margarita in Mexico, the Paloma.
1 oz. Familia Camarena Reposado or Silver Tequila
2 oz. Grapefruit juice
Top with seltzer / club soda
Familia Camarena tequila is widely available at major liquor stores across town.
