a reality check

In my mind, I have visions of being able to execute Martha Stewart-esque projects to perfection. In my reality, well…not so much. My cohorts here at tinyDallas and I frequently discuss our longing for more peeks at real-life amidst the seemingly picture perfect happenings in blogland — you know, a photo or two of an art supply-strewn living room, what to “cook” on the quick (for when you can’t manage to summons up your inner Alice Waters), details on the DIY project gone awry. We just think there’s something to be gained by commiserating. So in that spirit, I’m laying it out there for you today friends. No holds barred…

Enter the disastrous caramel apples.

I decided to try my hand at caramel apples after suggesting it would be fun to make and sell them at my daughter’s upcoming fall carnival (clearly I was delusional).  They seemed simple enough — melt some caramel, dip the apples, sprinkle with toppings — a no brainer, yes?  Sadly, for me, they were a fail…just really messy and time-consuming and ugly.  On the upside they tasted good, so that’s something, but needless to say we won’t be churning these bad boys out en mass anytime soon.

Feel free (in the spirit of togetherness) to share any of your recent project fails…I’m all ears.
