What I’m Watching: More Fun with the Suns

Plus: two tall tests for the Stars in the Metropolitan division

The Cowboys finally defeated Tom Brady, only to fall to seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy six days later. Them’s the breaks in football. Things weren’t much better in the American Airlines Center, where Luka and the Mavs lost to Trae Young’s Hawks. There was good news, however, in the form of TCU men’s basketball, who decimated the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks Sunday for their first win ever in Allen Fieldhouse and the Jayhawks’ worst home loss in two years.

Here’s what I’m watching this week:

Wednesday, 1/25—Hurricanes at Stars7:30 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest

It’s a battle of division kingpins, with the Central-leading Stars hosting the Metropolitan-leading Hurricanes. Their reward for a win? A Friday-night tilt with New Jersey, the Metropolitan’s second-place team. Robert Tiffin wrote last week about why and how these Stars are Dallas’ best regular-season squad in the better part of a decade. Scoring back-to-back wins like these would only enhance their case.

Thursday, 1/26—Mavericks at Suns9:00 p.m., TNT

This is the week chock full of recent emotional baggage, with the Mavs taking on Kristaps Porzingis’ Wizards tomorrow (even though the ex-Mavs center will miss his return to town with an ankle injury), followed by road dates against both teams they defeated in last year’s playoffs. The Suns game is the juiciest of the trio, both for the quality of the opponent and Dallas looking to right a wrong after blowing a 22-point lead in Phoenix in the season opener.
