Machine Gun Kelly
June 11, 8 p.m. | American Airlines Center
Fun fact! My alarm clock for freshmen year of college was “Wild Boy,” Machine Gun Kelly’s debut single with Waka Flocka Flame. In the early 2010s, MGK was prominent in the college hip-hop circuit. At first, he existed as a stark contrast to Asher Roth of “I Love College” fame. MGK’s aggressive, frantic lyricism proved a natural transition for his current iteration as a pop-punk star. The Cleveland musician cemented his claim to fame with Mainstream Sellout, produced by Travis Barker of Blink 182. No word on whether his fiancé Megan Fox will appear. Get tickets.
Earthgang
June 12, 7 p.m. | House of Blues
On Ghetto Gods, Earthgang gathers a collective of Atlanta’s brightest musicians to pay homage to the mecca of Black music. The duo exchange verses with rappers Future and Baby Tate, musician CeeLo Green, and Dreamville labelmate Ari Lennox. They all critique, discuss, and ponder the future of Atlanta. The album draws from the duo’s personal experience of living in Atlanta during the pandemic, the George Floyd uprisings, and the city’s return to a false sense of normalcy. Catch the duo before their tour takes them to Europe. Purchase tickets.
