Had you asked me eight months ago if I knew that Miss Texas was taking place in Allen, I would have said no. Had you asked if I was going to attend a Miss Texas luncheon the Tuesday before Miss Texas, I would have said no. Had you asked if I were going to attend Miss Texas and cheer someone on, I would have said no.
But that was eight months ago. Since then, I have interviewed a very jet-lagged Pepperdine graduate, given her an internship, been part of a panel of nine editors who fired questions at her for 10 minutes, attended a luncheon with her, and have secured tickets to Saturday night’s competition so I can cheer her on. I’m sure you remember former intern Karley Osborn. In case you haven’t been following along at home, she’s doing pretty well in her bid for Miss Texas. Wednesday night was the fitness competition. Miss Houston Adrianna Nelson won overall fitness, but Karley (Miss Twin Rivers) got first time contestant fitness. (She’s the one on the right.)
In the past few months, I’ve also learned a thing or two about Miss Texas. Though I’m posting a picture of the fitness competition, which has the girls in bikinis, that’s not the only thing Miss Texas is about. What I really wanted to post was a picture of the women at the Women of Achievement luncheon hosted on Tuesday. (I’ll be getting those photos soon and will post as soon as I can.) Each of the contestants nominated a woman they believed had achieved something in their lives. From politicians and entrepreneurs to grandmothers and teachers, the room was full of very inspiring women and their stories. It was a wonderful way to spend a few hours. There were tears and laughter and a lot of pictures (apparently, photos opps are prevalent during Miss Texas). Many of the girls I talked to (or mothers of the girls) said they weren’t nervous. I really do wish I could have the same poise these girls do. I think a lot of that can be attributed to what they’re learning through Miss Texas. I’m excited to see my first pageant, and to cheer on all the girls. If you’d like to join me, purchase tickets here.
