Rosemary Acton, R.I.P.

|

An alert FrontBurnervian draws our attention to an obit in today’s paper. Who is Rosemary Acton, you ask? Says our FBvian:

Rosemary Acton was Sam Wyly’s first wife, the mother of his first four children. Acton is her maiden name, which she went back to after the financial shenanigans involving her former husband and brother-in-law came to light. Oh, she was unhappy at how the Wyly name, her children’s name, had been so besmirched by their shenanigans, which she found abhorrent. Indeed, her obit doesn’t even allow the Wyly name a single mention, referring only to her “four children, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren…”

She was a lovely woman, unassuming, smart, loved to garden. Her father had been an investor/developer; he built the old Exchange Park, which housed the original Braniff HQ back in the day. I think he even loaned Sam some early $$ to help him and his brother start UCC.
