Garland Charity Nets $300+ Grand in Pick ‘Em Up Truck Sale

If you ever wondered how much one of these things costs, here’s something to chew on: The Garland-based People Against Drugs charity sold its rights to the No. 7 NASCAR truck (shown left) for more than $300 grand to another race team about a year ago, according to a spokesman at Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s office. The AG investigation of the charity and its founder, Gene Christensen, has lifted the veil that normally shrouds NASCAR dealings — in this case, Christensen (and People Against Drugs) decided to unload the truck after the state investigation began, Abbott’s suit says. Abbott is also alleging Christensen used the charity’s credit card on things besides racing tires: Like $700 for a body suit, tights and make-up at Neiman-Marcus;  $1,080 for services at the Nuvage skin-treatment center in McKinney; and for hotel rooms in Venezuela, Maui, and China. Guess I missed the 500k sprint-car/microderm-abrasion event at the Beijing summer Olympics.

Most of the juice is on page 9 of Abbott’s law suit.
