DO WE NEED TO SURF THE WEB IN OUR PARKS?

|

On Friday morning, some city officials will gather at Tietze Park to announce Dallas’ first public wireless Internet HotZone. After Tietze will come other park locations. This is good news for the people who live across the street from the park, since they’ll likely be able to access the free connection from their homes. But otherwise, I don’t see the point. Who goes to a park to get online? A coffee shop, yes. A park, no. I used to live down the street from Tietze. From my experience, here is what’s needed at that park: irrigation for the parched fields, more distance between the one basketball hoop at the tennis court so you don’t run into the dang fence on a layup, a new surface for the tennis court, and a decent working water fountain. When all that’s taken care of, then let’s worry about getting online.
