Burleson native and University of Texas at Arlington grad Casey Donahew sings about love, life and what he knows best: The Lone Star State. Since stepping on stage at a Fort Worth dive bar just over ten years ago, Donahew and his band have become mainstays in the Texas Country scene. With the release of their most recent album Double Wide Dream, the band has hit the road playing to sold out crowds in Texas, Colorado and everywhere in between.

I caught up with Donahew before one of the concerts at House of Blues to talk about the difficulties of making healthy choices on the road and the pressures of the drive thru at two a.m.

What’s your typical daily workout routine?
I don’t do enough to be honest. That’s my big secret. Our fiddle player, Josh, our guitar player, John and our bass player, Steve, all take the time to work out. We used to run together, but I’ve just been slacking a little lately.

If you have 20 minutes to work out what’s your routine?
It’s tough when you’re on the road, but I just like to do body stuff – cardio, push-ups, body weight exercises. That’s the easiest thing to do while traveling and the most effective.

What’s your daily breakfast routine?
A lot of guys sleep in, so most guys miss breakfast. Usually two or three of us will grab breakfast in the morning: a couple eggs, toast and coffee is my normal routine.

What’s your go-to cheat meal?
Pasta. I’m a big chicken parmesan fan. My favorite place to get chicken parmesan is Sammy’s in Burleson.

What’s your favorite song on your workout playlist?
I like to put it on shuffle and be surprised. I don’t really have a go-to song to get revved up.

How do you define being healthy and fit?
I’d like to eat better, I’d like to work out more. I think that’s the most important thing: to watch what you put into your body. I have not mastered the skill yet, but I am slowly working on it. It’s just too easy to get taquitos at two in the morning when you get off stage.
