Methodist Dallas Medical Center is officially a Level 1 Trauma Center.

The American College of Surgeons announced the certification last week. It is one of three in Dallas County and among 17 others in the state.

The ACS was onsite in July as the hospital opened the new Charles A. Sammons Trauma Tower in Oak Cliff. Over the summer, system executives learned the ACS would be recommending the hospital for the certification, which would then take between eight and 12 weeks to formalize. Level I certification means the hospital is also actively producing white papers and research material.

“As the only Trauma Center in southern Dallas County, our advancement to Level I status verifies that we are providing the highest level of care to residents of North Texas,” says Dr. Michael S. Truitt, medical director of trauma services at Methodist Dallas. “Our Level I verification is the net result of the excellent coordination between emergency physicians, surgeons, nurses, radiologists, and others who are all directly involved in patient care of the injured patient.”
