The Dumbest Conversation Ever to Take Place at Dallas City Hall

Seriously? We're still debating fluoride?

Councilwoman Paula Blackmon is just asking questions.

An alert FrontBurnervian sent me a link to the video of yesterday’s meeting of the Quality of Life, Arts, and Culture Committee, whereat they discussed whether fluoride should be in the city’s water supply. Fluoride. We’re not talking about the game. Not the game. We’re talking about fluoride.

There is too much evidence that fluoride is safe and that it produces a measurable benefit. I would insult you if I linked to that evidence. Same way I’d insult you if I linked to evidence that the Earth orbits the Sun.

Instead I offer you a link to the grilling yesterday that experts at City Hall got from the QLAC Committee. Specifically, for maximum entertainment, I’ll point you to the 21:15 mark, where you’ll find Councilwoman Paula Blackmon doing her best to get unelected from the District 9 seat. She begins her line of “I’m just asking questions” questions by saying, “My chemistry was back when I was 17, but I was pretty decent at it.” Then she proves she is, in fact, not decent at it.

I know Blackmon a little bit. I’ve had beers on her tab at the Lakewood Country Club. So believe me when I say that this dunderheaded fluoride inquisition makes me embarrassed for her and for our city. And I’m not saying that just because she twice used the word “entree” in a way that makes it obvious she doesn’t know what the word “entree” means.

Chew on that.
