Thumbs up to DISD teachers for saving the district $204,000 during the first three months of the 1991 92 school year. As part of a plan to rehire teachers laid off in the fall, teachers’ organizations had agreed to take fewer sick days, which saves money on substitute teachers. By sacrificing for a larger good, the teachers also set a valuable example for their students-and that’s nothing to sneeze at.
