THUMB AWARD NO MORE DOOR-TO-DOOR

|

Thumbs Up to Dallas’ Public Safety Committee for voting to change the city ordinance for door-to-door solicitations. Previously, such solicitations were allowed until 9 p.m. Under the new ordinance, solicitations would not be allowed after sunset. Committee members say the proposal was initiated by a rash of complaints that after-dark solicitations are a nuisance and that they interfere with crime-watch programs. Councilmembers Max Gold-blatt, Annette Strauss and Craig Holcomb are in favor of the change; councilmembers Elsie Faye Heggins and Paul Fielding are against it. Heggins says that a change in the ordinance will cause a hardship on the solicitors and claims that they help-not hinder- crime-watch programs.
