The Smoked Coffee at Bếp Nhà is one of the restaurant's most popular drinks. It's zero-proof and includes wood chips that are set on fire at the table that result in a smokey and creamy coffee drink. Steven Visneau

Craft coffee meets craft cocktails at Bếp Nhà Viet Kitchen, where the zero-proof Smoked Vietnamese Coffee puts on a show for the eyes and taste buds. Bếp Nhà co-manager Jolie Dang says owner Huong Ngo is a self-taught cook who finds food inspiration from central Vietnam, where her husband is from.

The menu is flooded with steaming bowls of pho, punchy vermicelli dishes, and rice plates with pickled veggies and charred meats. Customers have been especially captivated by the drinks, where Ngo flexes her creative muscles in the bright purple ube coffee and creamy egg coffee.

During the winter, Bếp Nhà features a “cloud coffee,” which includes a piece of cotton candy suspended above a hot drink. As the floss melts, it sweetens the drink little by little. But if you’re looking for a year-round favorite, the Smoke Vietnamese Coffee steals the show nearly every time.

It comes in three layers: a strong brew of rich black coffee made from a secret blend of beans, whole milk, and a light cocoa foam. To finish it off, the coffee is infused with smoke via a cocktail topper filled with wood chips that are set ablaze at the table. That’s fire.
