be there or be square: our first group art imitation DIY!

|

Ever since I started doing little art projects with my kids based on work by big, famous artists — we call it art imitation DIY here on tinyDallas– I’ve been thinking that it would be amazing to get a group of our readers and their kids together to do just such a project. When I saw Mark Bradford’s current show at the DMA, I knew I’d found the artist to inspire our first tinyDallas group art-making project, so we hope you’ll join us this Saturday in the Barrel Vault of the DMA for a walk through the show and to chat about Bradford’s big, beautiful work. Afterwards, we’ll head over to the former Bows and Arrows space on Greenville Avenue to collage our way into mini, Bradford inspired paintings. We’ll provide supplies, but feel free to bring scrap paper or anything random your kids would like to see slapped on a surface, as all of Bradford’s work is made from paper scraps. It should be a fabulous, anything-goes art-making afternoon, and we can hardly wait.

But you know what else? We here at tiny Dallas don’t mess around — we figure if we’re going to pretend to be famous artists we had better have an art party to show for it, right? So in honor of our group efforts toward art stardom, we’ll be hosting a one-night art reception on November 19 at Bows and Arrows so we can collectively ogle our kiddos’ paintings and imagine future art mavenhood for the lot of them.

Sound fun? You know it! Drop us a line and let us know you’re coming: [email protected]. We can’t wait to see you there!
