It wasn’t long ago that I found myself at the U.S. Post Office & Courthouse building in downtown Dallas.  I took in the smell of old paper, the unique architectural details, and historical plaques keeping the past alive.  It isn’t every day that you uncover facts about the city you’ve lived in for more than 30 years.

Did you know that the building is home to Judge Sarah T. Hughes federal courtroom? She was presiding over the courtroom on Nov. 22, 1963 and was called to administer the oath of office for Lyndon B. Johnson at Dallas Love Field after the assignation of JFK.

The courtroom was also privy to high profile cases, such as the “harboring trial” to those who conspired with Bonnie and Clyde. Judge Hughes also presided over the panel that overturned our State’s abortion laws, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade.

It’s amazing what you can discover about our city from the history hiding in our skyline. Jones Lang LaSalle currently is hosting an online contest, asking participants to take a photo of their city and tell us the story behind the photo.

Here’s how it works:

1. take a photo of Dallas’ skyline.

2. Log on to Twitter or Instagram and send @JLLNews your photo and a description using #JLLShowUsYourSkyline.

3. You are now entered for an opportunity to win $500.

Buildings in the central business district are being redeveloped at an amazing rate, and Dallas is full of inspiration. It’s a world-class city where you can live, work, play, and learn. So get outside and start taking it all in!
