What I’m Watching: El Bombi in the Home Run Derby

Plus: The WNBA All-Star Game, and FC Dallas' final MLS game until August

The Rangers lost the Silver Boot series finale to Houston but have caught up to the Astros in the bigger picture, even if the rest of July could be nervy. The Wings scored a massive win in the second game of their home-and-home with defending champion Las Vegas. And the Mavericks made a huge addition in the form of ex-Celtics forward Grant Williams; you can read Brian Dameris on that and more from their offseason to date.

Here’s what I’m watching this week:

Monday, 7/10—Adolis Garcia in the Home Run Derby6 p.m., ESPN

Do I really need to sell you on this? It’s El Bombi hitting dingers on repeat. And, in a nice personal touch, his first-round opponent, Tampa’s Randy Arozarena, is his close friend and old roommate in the Cardinals organization. (Here’s The Athletic’s Levi Weaver with a lovely read on that.) So, dingers and friendship. I trust you’re sufficiently sold.

Saturday, 7/15—The WNBA All-Star Game7:30 p.m., ABC

Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally will be representing Dallas, and they’ll do so on opposing squads following Sunday’s All-Star player draft. Who puts up the better line?

Saturday, 7/15—FC Dallas at Seattle Sounders9:30 p.m., Apple TV+

Dallas’ final MLS league game until late August—they’ll participate in the Leagues Cup in the meantime—is a tough one, as the Sounders sit second in the West and haven’t lost at home since May. Can FCD enter the break with momentum?
