There’s a lot of cause for celebration this month. The kids have settled into their routines, the weather has cooled down, and you’ve found the perfect rhinestone-encrusted cowboy halter for Cattle Baron’s Ball. Why not celebrate with an art purchase? At Norwood Flynn (3318 Shorecrest Dr. Wed–Sat, noon–5:30 p.m. 214-351-3318. www.norwoodflynngallery.com.), check out drawings by Michael O’Keefe (Oct 4–Nov 1). His works “comment on the general value and function of myth and also reflect on historical narratives.” Looking for something a little moodier? Over at Marty Walker (2135 Farrington St. 214-749-0066. www.martywalkergallery.com.), Andrew Bennett’s soot and smoke paintings provide a “discourse on conscious manipulation and chance” with organic patterns, curls of smoke, and intricate design (Oct 18-Nov 15. Tue–Fri, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sat, noon–5 p.m.). Walker also has German artist Marc Lüders’ Berlin Wall series, which combines painting and photography. Santa Fe-based sculptor Ted Larsen has a show at PanAmerican Art Projects (Oct 18–Nov 15. Tue–Sat, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. 1615 Dragon St. 214-522-3303. www.panamericanart.com.). The artist uses found items—metals mostly—and patches them together to create colorful, geometric pieces. Down the street, Banks Fine Art celebrates the season with “Autumn Leaves,” featuring fall vistas from around the world (Oct 9–30. Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sat, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 1231 Dragon St. 214-352-1811. www.banksfineart.com.). The works of Danna Ruth Harvey, Jeff Wilson, and David Crimson are on display at Craighead-Green Gallery (Oct 18–Nov 15. 1011 Dragon St. 214-855-0779. www.craigheadgreen.com.). Perhaps you’re feeling competitive? Check out the action at David Dike’s annual auction (Oct 18, 3 p.m.), which doubles as an exhibition of more than 300 works by Texas artists (including Reveau Basset and Thomas Allen). The exhibition is on display a week before the auction at the MAC (The McKinney Avenue Contemporary. 3120 McKinney Ave. 214-720-4044. www.daviddikefineart.com.).
