When I Went: March 29-31, 2012

Was That the Best Time of Year to Go? March, perfect weather.

Why I Went There: Just to get away and breathe in some weird.

Who Went With Me? My fiancee

We Stayed Here: Hotel Paisano

You Won’t Want to Miss: Do not miss the Marfa Lights, the Saturday Market, Frama Coffee, Ballroom Marfa art gallery

Maiya’s — big-city modern Italian with locally sourced ingredients.  The Museum of Electronic Wonders and Late Night Grilled Cheese — the name says it all.

Play Here: Hotel Paisano — great courtyard for a drink and relaxation.  Padre’s — quirky, fun bar with live music and amazing patio. Monahans Sandhills State Park — on the way from Midland to Marfa, endless white sand dunes. Planet Marfa beergarden — they have a full size teepee.

If I Went Again: We’d visit the Chianti Hot Springs.

How Did You Get There From Dallas? Flew to Midland and drove 3 hours through the Davis Mountains to Marfa.

Other Tips For Fellow Travelers: The town doesn’t really get going until about 2 p.m., and there isn’t a lot for kids.
