The Mavericks’ slim play-in hopes did not bear fruit—and you can read more from me on how this better be rock bottom in the Luka Doncic era. Meanwhile, the Rangers dropped the opener—and eventually, the series—against Baltimore to ruin its perfect start to the season. As for the men’s national championship game, it was a bit of a dud. But we did feature some excellent writing about the women’s (and the rest of what transpired in Dallas during Final Four weekend) courtesy of Natalie Weiner.
Here’s what I’m watching this week.
Monday, 4/10—WNBA Draft—6 p.m., ESPN
The Wings own the third, fifth, and 11th overall picks heading into a night where playmaking and scoring—in that order—are their greatest needs. To that end, here’s Sam Hale making the case for Haley Jones being Dallas’ best option at No. 3 overall. Dorothy J. Gentry will have more later in the week on who Dallas does select.
Monday, 4/10—Stars at Red Wings—6 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest
The last week of the NHL regular season is upon us, and what better way for the Stars to get a tune-up than with a win over one of their oldest rivals? Between this plus a home-and-home against St. Louis, Dallas could roll into the postseason riding a six-game win streak that began last Monday against the Predators.
Tuesday, 4/11—Rangers versus Royals—7:05 p.m., Bally Sports Southwest
We got an inning of Jacob deGrom at his best on Opening Day. We got several more last week against Baltimore. Will we get the first complete true deGrom performance—six-plus innings with double-digit strikeouts—against Kansas City?
