In ninth grade my class read The Outsiders. Ever the dedicated student, I read the Spark Notes version of the story, and missed out on the classic tale (big mistake). Now I’ve got a chance to redeem myself, thanks to Big D Reads. For the month of April they are celebrating S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis, and all things literary. Here are the details:
“Big D Reads, D Magazine’s literacy movement that celebrates “ah-ha” books, kicked off this morning. Since 6 am, we’ve handed out nearly 3,000 copies of The Outsiders. Our goal—make Dallas a city of readers—is lofty, but our methods—give 20,000 copies and create events around the book—are simple. We’ve got movie screenings planned, book discussions, and a visit from the author, S.E. Hinton (who wrote the book when she was just 16 years old). Look for us around town, handing out books.”
