New Incense Obsession: Blackbird Roheline

2060_01I’m all about incense. When done right, it’s just so much cooler than a candle. But the “doing it right” part is the trick. A vast majority (like, say 99.9%) of incense is just plain stinky — cloying, overpowering. Bad incense will take you straight back to college and your hippie roommate’s desperate attempts to cover up, ahem, other smells. (Or maybe that’s just me.)

Good incense should evoke someplace exotic, slightly glamorous even. It should be subtle and interesting. (Think Ibiza, The Hotel San Jose, and The Rolling Stones circa Exile on Main Street.) Santa Maria Novell makes my current incense of choice, but it’s pricy (as most exotic, slightly glamorous, subtle, interesting things are), so I can’t swing burning it as often as I’d like.

So I was thrilled when my friend Sam gifted me with a little tin of Blackbird Roheline incense cones that she snapped up at TenOverSix. With its mellow green fragrance (a combo of tomato leaf and fern), it’s fresh yet warm and sexy. Incense nirvana. And it’ rings in at about half the price of the Santa Maria Novella.

Done and done.
