Irving-based USMD Holdings has named a new chief financial officer.

Jim Berend will be the highest-ranking financier of the publicly traded system of hospitals, cancer centers, and physician clinics throughout North Texas. Most recently, he spent about seven months as CFO of the outpatient, physician-owned surgical hospital system Victory Healthcare in The Woodlands.

Prior to that, he was the head of Grant Thornton’s healthcare practice and a medical advisor at EY in Dallas.

“I am pleased to welcome Jim to the executive management team at USMD,” said John House, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of USMD Holdings. “Jim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, particularly in healthcare finance, to USMD. His leadership ability, combined with his financial and operational understanding of the healthcare industry, will serve us well as we continue our mission to deliver world-class, cost-effective and compassionate care to our patients.”

In all, USMD has two hospitals (in Arlington and Fort Worth), four cancer treatment centers, and more than 50 clinics split between primary and specialty services.
