Mother of Santos Rodriguez Dies at 80. Bessie Rodriguez waited half a century for an apology from the city of Dallas following the 1973 murder of her son by police Ofc. Darrell Cain. Santos was just 12 when he was forced to play Russian roulette in the back of Cain’s squad car. Rodriguez’ family told WFAA that she was sick with an illness at the time of her death. The apology came in July 2021, at a ceremony in which a statue of Santos was unveiled in Uptown’s Pike Park, which was the Little Mexico neighborhood in which the family lived.

Trinidad ‘Trini’ Garza, Who DISD Named a School After, Dies. The longtime civic leader and businessman was a key organizer in the city’s Mexican American Leadership Conference. The Trinidad ‘Trini’ Garza Early College High School near Mountain View bears his name. The district didn’t release any other details.

Bills Linebacker Von Miller Turns Self In After Assault Charges. The DeSoto native is charged with assault of a pregnant person, a felony. The arrest affidavit alleges Miller shoved her during an argument, then stepped on her feet. She fell into a chair, where Miller “put a hand on her neck and applied pressure for 3 to 5 seconds.” Miller is also accused of stomping on her phone and laptop as she tried to leave, then “applied pressure” to her neck once more. He fled after she called police, then surrendered in Glenn Heighs. He was released after posting $5,000 bond.

The Fog is Gone, the Weekend Will Feel Like Fall. Today our high is 60, but that jumps to 70 and 68 on Saturday and Sunday. It’ll be partly cloudy, but there is no rain in the forecast.
