Happy Walpurgis Night, everyone, which I mention as an excuse to bring up the fact that it’s also my half birthday. Also, Tony nominations are out.

You will not find any bonfires to dance around at Annette Strauss Square this evening. Probably for the best. But you will find the always entertaining Gipsy Kings. I’m quite familiar with their music, because my mom really loves them, and also because the folks at Peak and Elm seem attached to their version of “Hotel California” and I’ve been going there a lot lately. The sad news is that if you want to hear these guys croon in Gitane, it will cost you. The cheaper lawn seats are sold out, and all that’s left are pricier chairs. It’s BYOB, so, savings there, maybe? Maybe.

Also tonight, the Fort Worth Opera Festival continues at Bass Hall. Our critic, Wayne Lee Gay, has been impressed by just about everything he’s seen so far, which includes a fantastic production of The Daughter of the Regiment, starring TCU-trained rising star Ava Pine. Unfortunately, you can’t catch that production again until later this week. But you can see Glory Denied tonight, the FWO’s regional premiere of the contemporary English opera about Jim Thompson, an American soldier held for nine years in North Vietnam. Thompson is the longest-documented prisoner of war, and opera is distilled from his biography. It works. You can read Gay’s review here before you go. You’ll have to make dinner either quick, since the opera starts at 7:30 p.m., or late, so check out these Fort Worth options.

Finally, tonight’s Hard Night’s Day concert at the Dallas Arboretum is sold out, but if you’ve already got tickets, my wonderful coworker, Raya, and I are introducing the band. So we’ll see you there.
