Tim Rogers Survives to Play in Round 3 of D Magazine Words With Friends

Those of us who work mere feet away from Tim Rogers witnessed the anxiety that today’s tournament match with wife/mother/community volunteer Anne Besser gave him. There was much gnashing of teeth, as well as a good bit of giggling at Tim’s expense, over by his desk. But he came out on top, 371 to 366. Here’s what he had to say for himself:

I am embarrassed to admit how nervous this game made me. I had to drink a beer at one point to calm my nerves. When I fought back from 50 points down, only to have Anne play the (bogus) word “gox” on me (simultaneously scoring a double letter with “xi”), I swore loudly enough that the entire office heard my filthy mouth. The turning point, I felt, was when I told Anne I didn’t think I had the will to continue, and she taunted me by messaging, “Keep trying. I gox to go into the Sears Tower. I may lose cell reception.” At that point, I girded my loins and played “hooray” on her “snatch.” As we ran out of tiles, Anne and I traded the lead several times, and she told me that if she lost, she might have to leap from the top of the Sears Tower. So for all I know, Anne is now dead. If that’s the case, I probably gox to write an apology letter to her family.
