Earlier this morning, the movers and eaters of the State Fair of Texas gathered at The Dock for one of the most important and serious competitions all year: the 2013 Big Tex Choice Awards. (Sorry, Cliburn.)
Last week, we revealed the eight finalists who came head-to-head in an oily, oily battle inside Fair Park. Here are the results from today:
BEST TASTE: Deep Fried Cuban Roll – Isaac Rousso, who was in the finals last year for his deep-fried pork wings, took a big win this year for his deep-fried Cuban roll. It’s another meaty creation with pork shoulder, chopped ham, Swiss cheese, and secret sauce. It’s then rolled up and fried. Served with mojo sauce.
MOST CREATIVE: Fried Thanksgiving Dinner – Justin and Rudy Martinez of Fiesta Enterprises took America’s favorite holiday and rolled it into a ball. It’s got turkey and stuffing on the inside, cream corn and corn meal on the outside. Served with brown gravy. Amazingsauce.
We’ll have a more detailed report (with photos!) of the competition coming shortly.
