Into The Weekend: Butterflies and Budding Modern Artists

|

I was listening to NPR on the way into the office when my ears perked up at this exciting news… It’s going to be, wait for it…a high of 83 and sunny tomorrow! No drizzly rain, no unbearable “summer even though it’s not summer yet” heat. Just a warm, bright, totally seasonally appropriate day. (Fingers crossed that I did not jinx the entire enterprise by posting it here.)

If indeed my good weather wishes come true then tomorrow will be blissfully perfect for the Peace, Hope & Butterflies event at Flag Pole Hill from 3-6. The (totally genius) fundraiser benefiting Children’s Medical Center will feature (among other happy making activities) a bounce house, rock climbing, a petting zoo, face painting, arts & crafts, snow cones, and the pièce de résistance, a butterfly release.

Activity tickets are $1 each or $25 for unlimited, and all proceeds go toward funding pediatric cancer research. What’s better than that?

And because any good weekend needs an art moment (not to mention the fact that I’m always up for a field trip to Ft. Worth), we’re planning on hitting the “Drawing from the Collection for Children” event at the Modern on Sunday at 2:00. We’ll got to Benito’s for some enchiladas mole verde first and then head over to the museum district so the girlies can get their draw on while we peruse the paintings.

There are two free program sessions offered with Jen Rose teaching ages 5 to 8 and Aqsa Shakil heading up the 9 to 12-year-olds. The kiddos need to bring a sketchbook and pencils, and littles under six must be accompanied by an adult during the program.

(Attendance is limited. A sign-up sheet is located at the front desk; early arrival is encouraged.)
