Student Brings Gun to Mesquite’s Horn High. School officials say the high schooler showed up with a backpack that wasn’t clear and began acting “suspicious.” The student pushed back against a teacher who wanted to store the bag in a secure room, so the school called in the police dogs. The K9 “indicated there was the presence of odor associated with firearms or ammunition in the bag.” The district credits its clear bag policy with finding the weapon. The 17-year-old was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a place where weapons are prohibited.
