The “Suzie-Q,” a B-17 that won honors in the Pacific early in World War II, caught fire above Stevens Park in Oak Cliff and crashed at Hampton Airport just north of Kiest Park on April 28, 1943. The famous plane was in Dallas to help raise money for a war bond drive.
