Hospitalists Claim Frequent Unsafe Workloads, Study Says

|

Nearly 4 out of 10 hospitalists say they attempt to handle unsafe patient loads at least once a week, according to a study in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Johns Hopkins University researchers surveyed about 900 hospitalists regarding what they considered the number of patients they believed they could safely handle. Nearly 1 out of 4 said their excessive workloads adversely affected patient outcomes, and 1 out of 5 specifically cited negative outcomes such as poor patient transfers, treatment complications and even death.
