Hospital prices fell 0.2 percent in December, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Prices were 2.2 percent higher, compared to December 2011. Prices for general medical and surgical hospitals declined.2 percent and were 2.1 percent higher than in December 2011. BLS’ Producer Price Indices calculates actual or expected reimbursement for a sample of treatments or services. Reimbursement includes the negotiated contract rate from the payer plus any portion expected to be paid by the patient.
