The Great Create at The Nasher Sculpture Center

fundraiser-great-create-logoMy family recently followed our (incredibly wise) D Moms Daily contributor Dr. Kate Naumes’ suggestion to create a “Family Mission Statement,” and it just so happens to contain many of the tenants of the one we created when we launched D Moms here at D.

We committed to live a beautiful life, to give back, to celebrate good food, to seek out culture, to find magic in the everyday, and, perhaps most important, to embrace, champion, and practice creativity as much as possible.

For me, living a creative life is synonymous with living a rich/rewarding/fulfilling one. It is incredibly important to me and to the work that we do with D Moms.

To that end, I am thrilled that D Moms is the media partner for the Nasher Sculpture Center’s inaugural family fundraiser, The Great Create, taking place on Sunday, April 28 from 1-4.

Friends, this is going to be totally fantastic event. The Nasher staff and The Great Create’s family co-chairs Lucy and Steve Wrubel and Megan and Brady Wood have orchestrated an afternoon dedicated to “making,” with a cadre of renowned artists (think Diana Al-Hadid, Jason MeadowsRy Rocklen, and Allison V. Smith among others) leading young attendees in hands-on activities and workshops in the Nasher Garden. The afternoon will also feature live entertainment, yummy food, and the amazing energy of a group of people being creative while giving back.

As the media partner, our D Moms Art Editor Lucia Simek and I will be hosting an “Art Imitation” project for The Great Create attendees. We’ll provide all the materials (and encouragement) necessary to create mini works of art inspired by Christo and Giacometti (that’s a sneak peek above), and we are so excited to help get kiddos flexing their creative muscles.

The museum will be closed to the public all day for this ticketed event, with proceeds benefiting the Nasher Sculpture Center’s youth education programs, such as the 3:01 Club After-school Program and free student tours. The event is geared toward children 12 and under, with teens ages 13 and up invited to serve as “Art Ambassadors” to assist the artists and younger attendees. You can purchase tickets and sponsorships here.

We’d love to see you there!
