Mini-Review: Aló

|

My quick (and overdue) review of Aló Cenaduria and Piqueos. Summary? Best lunch I’ve had this year.

We started with the Street Stand Raw Vegetables ($6.50). Think jicama, radish, and cucumbers with chile, lime, and salt. Simple, and fairly standard for true Mexican food, but executed just right. It’s something I could eat every day—a trend that carried throughout the meal. Light, spiced perfectly, and fresh, fresh, fresh.

We continued with Peruvian Yellowtail Cebiche ($8.50). Spelled with a “b” because it’s Peruvian. I will hold all future ceviche to this bar.

Based on a recommendation, the last dish was Aji de Gallina ($13.50.)  It’s a savory chicken and rice dish with aji amarillo sauce and walnuts. Aji Amarillo? That’s a yellow pepper (aji) based cream sauce. Much lighter than you’d think, but still savory. Chicken and rice never tasted so good.

Ended with a Cafe Alo ($3.95). A perfectly drawn shot of espresso mixed with hot milk, and topped with froth. Think café con leche, done stronger, and better.
