I just got back from Paris—city of lights, excess, high French style, gilded LXIV chairs, and silk curtains, so the first thing I see Sunday morning in the DMN is “Donna Decorates Dallas’—which is excess gone awful. This article promotes Dallas style using words like bling and glitz and glam. First of all, the first two words don’t belong in the same sentence as good design, the other word glam is only good as pertains to someone with great style like Jan Showers. My friend Joe Minton gave me the article yesterday at a photo shoot in a beautiful, tasteful apartment at the Goldcrest and he was understandably upset. “We finally get over the TV show Dallas, and now HGTV is showing the world their idea of Dallas taste. It’s so embarrassing to be a designer from Dallas and have our friends in other places see shows like this. So, this is for you, Joe—this isn’t Dallas design!
