Read it. And then go see it.

If you have eagerly anticipated the musical version of a book by the name of The Fortress of Solitude, then you are both my type of person and in luck.

Tonight’s Arts and Letters Live event at the Dallas Museum of Art combines a few of my favorite things—literature, theater, nice singing. The author Jonathan Lethem, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel on which the Dallas Theater Center’s upcoming production is based, will be in attendance. Lethem will talk about his process, and then DTC director Kevin Moriarty will moderate a conversation with Lethem and the creative team behind the musical—Itamar Moses (book), Michael Friedman (score), and Daniel Aukin (director). You’ll also get a sneak peek before the musical’s world premiere in March. Get your tickets via the DMA’s website.

It’s also a good evening to make it out to Denton’s Thin Line Festival, though you could probably show up anytime this weekend and have a good time. In addition to film, there’s a musical component this year that acts as a showcase of a wide variety of local music. The all hip-hop event tonight, happening in one of the festival tents rather than a venue, is an opportunity catch performances from Fort Worth’s Snow tha Product,  Dallas duo Booty Fade, Jenny Robinson, and Sam Lao. For more on that, go see Chris Mosley’s concert recommendations over on FrontRow.
