When you tell your stylist you have no clue what color you want and you walk away with exactly the color you wanted (but couldn’t describe), you know you’ve find a gem. That was my experience with Ali Hasan and his team at Halcyon Days at NorthPark. I think I told him something along the lines of “Well, I want to go dark again. Actually I still like my red. I used to have jet-black hair. I want that. No. I like my lighter hair now. Ugh. I don’t know.” He came back with three swatches and asked me to pick one I was most attracted to. (I chose a dark cherry hue.) I spent a while with a wet head (a gloss treatment was applied post-dye job), but a glass of bubbly helped. (Halcyon is also the perfect hiatus from the real world as it’s basically underground.) He layered my hair, keeping the length but adding volume, and I walked away feeling more beautiful and more like myself than I have in a while. (I can’t remember the last time I felt more beautiful because I’m more me. I’m usually looking for something to make myself look different.) I don’t always have the luxury of being loyal to colorist or stylist (how else can I tell you about a salon but to experience it myself?), but finding a place this good is hard to let go.
