Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Mar. 12

Out of the Loop.
Out of the Loop.

Here come the cardinals, processing their way into the papal conclave. Definitely the best part of this story: “And in a bizarre twist, basketball star Dennis Rodman is expected to arrive in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday in a makeshift popemobile as he campaigns for Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana to become the church’s first black pope.” Excuse me while I trade in my car for a makeshift popemobile. It’s the only way I want to travel.

The Out of the Loop Fringe Festival, which kicked off last Thursday and continues through this week, offers Muscle Memory Dance Theatre’s performance on the main stage this evening. It’s called Falling Upside: A Modern Dance en route to Recovery. Tickets to the performance are just $10, and still available online. If you’d prefer a play, the two-person Pluto is Listening takes place in the smaller studio theater. After reading Lawson Taitte’s review of the two-character drama in the Dallas Morning News, it actually might be the show I’m most intrigued to see. I do love a good secret. And since you’ll be in Addison, you could help out a bankrupt Snuffer’s by ordering a post-cultural activity snack of cheese fries, but you do have other dinner options.

Also tonight, there are musical happenings not taking place four hours (three, if you are my friend Michael) away in Austin. Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a band that was here around this time last year opening for Girls, plays Club Dada with Foxygen and Wampire, while Alabama Shakes is at Palladium Ballroom with Michael Kiwanuka, Sam Doores, and Riley Downing. Can I just say how lucky we are to have positioned such excellent cocktail joints near both of these venues? I’m talking about Black Swan Saloon, where you should either ask for something with arugula or a pickle back, depending on how your night is going, and Cedars Social, respectively.
