A law-practicing FrontBurnervian sent word that Tree Amigos, d/b/a Trees, the club in Deep Ellum, filed for bankruptcy. Because I’m such an investigative reporter, I made a couple of calls to find out for sure. Yep, ’tis true. Trees, Gypsy Tea Room, Green Room, Jeroboam, and, overall, the Entertainment Collaborative filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday, October 14 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. Now, I’m no bankruptcy lawyer (or any kind of lawyer, for that matter), but I’m told Chapter 11 is better than Chapter 7. The latter means you’re shutting down for good. The former means you can still operate your business and (hopefully) get vendors to trust you again after you stiff them on all bills preceding your bankruptcy filing date.
Still, bad, bad news for Deep Ellum, an area of town that’s had plenty of bad news already.
