IF I’D HAD A GUN, THERE WOULDA BEEN ONE DEAD DOG

|

‘Nuther pit bull story. About 8 a.m., I grabbed my walking stick and took my hound for his morning walk near the corner of Abrams and Glasgow. We went a new route today for no particular reason. When I returned, I ran into my neighbor, who took her dog and her young son (in a stroller) on my normal route. Her heart was still racing, because they’d been charged by a pit bull (white, with a large black spot). She had yelled, a truck pulled over to assist, and the dog ran off. As we were talking, I saw the little death machine jogging down the street, toward the many kids who walk to Long Middle School.

I called the animal control department. The operator stopped me before I’d gotten half the story out. “We’ve had many calls on that dog this morning,” she said. I just checked, and only now is a service vehicle on its way, and only because they received another series of calls at 10:30 this morning.

Hey, pit bull owners, feel free to e-mail me about how it’s the owner, not the dog. I’ll read them while I’m searching for a gun on Craig’s List.
