THUMBS UP to East Dallas City Council member GLENN BOX for bravely, if acidly, speaking his mind in the redistricting debate. Citing his district’s large vote in favor of the 10-4-1 plan-which he believes gives minorities as much representation as the 12-1 option-Box said he supported 12-1 “only in the same sense one ’supports’ handing over their wallet…during an armed robbery.” He lashed out at federal judge JERRY BUCHMEYER for giving the city only 30 days to respond, and he made a solid argument for waiting for the 1990 census figures before redrawing the council lines. The threats to recall Box are small-minded. What happened to diversity?
