DFW Healthcare Brief: Texas Hospital Association’s New President and Medical City’s Five Star Rating

Plus, an expansion of a federally qualified provider and Texas Health's conservation award.

Advocacy veteran John Hawkins will be the Texas Hospital Association’s new president and chief executive officer. He is replacing Ted Shaw, who will be retiring at the end of the year. THA represents more than 600 hospital members from around the state. Hawkins is currently THA’s senior vice president of advocacy and public policy and has been with the organization for 17 years.


Medical City North Hills received five stars from Healthgrades for its hip fracture treatment, gastrointestinal surgeries and carotid procedures in the 2022 Specialty Care Ratings & Awards. Healthgrades analyzes hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions each year.


North Texas Area Community Health Centers  has opened its Northside Eye Care Center. The federally qualified health center provides medical services to lower-income residents, including routine eye care and comprehensive medical exams for patients of all ages. The clinic will treat glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eye, injury/infection, red eyes, and more.


Texas Health Resources has once again been named to the Texan by Nature list, an organization founded by former first lady Laura Bush to recognize the best and most innovative conservation work from Texas businesses. Texas Health Hospital Mansfield, which was designed to be more energy efficient, was among the listed initiatives.
